KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Bank (DAB) says over 1.2 billion afs worn out banknotes have been burned, according to a statement on Thursday.
In order to facilitate transactions according to articles 39 and 42, over 1.2 billion afs banknotes burned, the DAB statement said.
These banknotes were burned after careful counting under the supervision of the staff and at the presence of the DAB Head Hedayatullah Badri.
The burned banknotes include 1,000, 500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1 afghanis, which were collected from the center and south-eastern zone.
Badri said: “Afghani is our national identity and citizens should keep it in the best way and prevent it from becoming obsolete.”
He said: “The reason for the early introduction of Afghan banknotes is the non-use of bank cards and the counting of money with dirty and dirty hands by some people.”
In order to facilitate transactions DAB collects deteriorated Afghani banknotes from the market from time to time, distributes new banknotes in exchange and burns the outdate banknotes in accordance with the rules and regulations.
