Afghanistan’s imports from Pakistan grow

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s imports from Pakistan increased in 11 months of 2023 comparing to the amount of imports from the neighbouring country in 2022, an official said on Sunday.

Akhundzada Abdul Salaam Jawad, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI) told Pajhwok Afghan News: “In 2022 our imports from Pakistan were $1.031 million while during the past 11 months of 2023 our import from Pakistan reached over $1.307 million.”

He said most of import items from Pakistan were rice, cement, medicines, fruits and eggs.

This comes that Pakistani media outlets said that Pakistan exports to Afghanistan had surged in the past one year.

The report said that Pakistan exported goods worth $232 million to Afghanistan during the period.

It also noted that Afghanistan’s export to Pakistan declined by 72 percent and during the period goods worth $2.1 million exported to Pakistan.
