JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a kidnapped child in eastern Nangarhar province, police said on Tuesday.
The slain child named Mohmmad Ilyas Momand had been kidnapped in Eidgah mosque area in the limits of fourth security district of Jalalabad on Thursday.
Maulvi Muhammad Tahir Mubariz, deputy police chief, told a press conference today: “This was very sad incident and shocking news for the caretaker government and Nangarhar security forces, we visited the incident area and 80 percent of the issue has been resolved.”
He said two suspected killers have been arrested and they were currently being interrogated and soon the main perpetrators of the incident would be arrested.
Yesterday, the child’s father Engar Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News unknown men contacted his father-in-law on his mobile phone and demanded $50,000 in ransom on the same evening, but he had no money.
On Thursday at 9pm, the kidnappers again called after throwing the child’s body in front of a house, he added.
Engar asked the government to arrest the murders and award them exemplary punishment.
Many people turned to social media platforms, asking the government to punish the killers of the child.
