Standard weighbridge built in Ghazni to control trucks weight

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A standard high-tonnage weighbridge has been built on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in southern Ghazni province to control the trucks loaded weight and ensure the protection of the road, an official said on Tuesday.

Public Works Department Director Maulvi Muhibullah Abbas told Pajhwok Afghan News, six million afs has been spent on the installation of the high tonnage scale.

The construction of high tonnage scale would help control trucks weight on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Ghazni province.

In addition, it would help protect the high way and prevent traffic accident caused due to the deteriorated condition of the road.

This weighbridge facility is built on 2.5 acres of land and has the capacity to weigh up to 600 trucks in each day.

According to the information of Public Works department the load of the trucks depends on the type of each vehicle and only the 24-wheel-trailers are allowed to carry up to 64 tonnes of loads.

The trucks that carry more than permitted load will not be allowed to travel on this highway, however the violators will face legal consequences too.

Maulvi Muhibullah Abbas asked from all of the drivers and traders to pay more attention to the maintenance of the highways and avoid from the transportation of illegal loads.

The residents of Ghazni province and some passengers commend this step of the officials and hope that the trucks’ overloading issue to be managed in the future.

A driver Jan Dad told Pajhwok, most parts of the Kabul-Kandahar highway were destroyed due to the overloading and lack of weighbridges.

He asked from the government to prevent from the movement of overloaded trucks and establish more such facilities on other highways of the country to prevent the destruction of highways and promote the country’s economy.

A taxi driver Ezatullah told Pajhwok: “The construction of highways takes years of work and cost millions of dollars but such facilities are usually threated by destruction due to the overloaded vehicles.”

The Public Works department of Ghazni added that it has a plan to create three more bridge-scale facilities in this province.
