KABUL (Pajhwok): Seventy-six houses have been built and handed over to floods-affected people in the Jarlez district of central Maidan Wardak province.
Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund, state minister for natural disaster management, said the area residents’ houses had been destroyed in flash floods.
He said only rooms had been built for the affected people. After the winter, he promised, boundary walls would also be constructed.
Governor Qari Bakhtiar Maaz said the houses had been constructed with financial support from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Takana area.
He estimated the cost of each house at about 250,000 afghanis.
Ahmad Zia Mayar, a representative of DRC, said they had built two and three-room houses for residents of the area.
Six months ago, about 30 people were killed and 26 others wounded in severe rain-induced floods in the Takana area of the district.
