KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi on Wednesday hailed his visit to Iran as a success.
On his return from the neighbouring country, Muttaqi briefed Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir on his just-concluded trip to Iran.
A statement from the deputy prime minister’s office said Muttaqi informed Kabir about his meetings with officials, diplomats and the Afghans living in Tehran and Mashhad.
Hailing Iran Afghanistan’s friend, the foreign minister said he held fruitful discussions with host officials on boosting political, economic and trade cooperation between the neighbours.
Kabir said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had good relations with all regional countries, particularly Iran. He said he wanted relations with Iran to be further expanded.
While in Iran, Muttaqi attended an international conference on Palestine and met his Iranian counterpart Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the President Raisi for Afghanistan and the governor of Khorasan province.
He also visited the Afghan embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Mashhad. He spoke to diplomats and representatives of refugees.
In a meeting with Afghan refugees in Iran, Muttaqi said entire Afghanistan was being controlled by IEA and there was no political detainee in the country.
The minister insisted IEA rivals did not have control even on one metre of Afghanistan’s territory. The incumbent government had eliminated feudal power and restored nationwide security, he maintained.
