KABUL (Pajhwok): Azerbaijan plans to open its embassy in Afghanistan next year, a media report said on Saturday, citing a statement from the foreign ministry in Baku.
Under a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 28, 2021, Ilham Mammadov was appointed as Azerbaijan’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Afghanistan.
This comes as the relations of Central Asian countries with Afghanistan’s caretaker government are improving. Last week, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan extended electricity supply agreements with Afghanistan.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote on its X handle that Kazakhstan Ambassador Alim Khan Yasin Galdiev called on Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
During the meeting, the envoy informed the minister about his country’s decision regarding the removal of IEA from its sanctions list.
Muttaqi reaffirmed IEA’s desire for cordial ties with Kazakhstan, saying both countries should continue mutual cooperation in different fields.
