Death toll from earthquake in Japan rises to 30

KABUL (Pajhwok): The number of people killed in the earthquakes that rocked Japan has risen to 30, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to emergency services, at least 50 people suffered injuries.

Over 200 buildings are on fire in the Ishikawa Prefecture. More than 100 buildings collapsed and many people trapped under the rubble.

Rescuers and firefighters are working at the scene and the Japanese Self-Defence Forces are assisting in dealing with the aftermath of the quakes.

Over 32,000 households remain without electricity, and water supplies to dozens of settlements are disrupted.

More than 150 earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 7.6 have hit Japan since Monday. A tsunami warning for the country’s western coast remained in effect for over 20 hours.
