JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on a 611-meter long road along the canal in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Jalalabad municipality spokesman Bakhti Jan Murad told Pajhwok Afghan News the road was being constructed in Wach Tangi area in the limits of 8th police district with financial support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
He said the 611 meter long and seven meter wide road would be constructed in a standard manner at a cost of more than nine million afghanis.
He asked the people to cooperate with the construction company and police districts so the road could be constructed according plan.
He added hundreds of people were employed for the road project that would take six months to complete.
"The aim of this project is to provide temporary work and urgent basic services in this area. Mostly the money for this project is allocated to workers and human resources,” Murad said.
Residents of the Wach Tangi area do not have access to basic services.
