FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): For the first time, a telecommunication antenna of Salaam Network has been installed and activated in the Loye Pamir area of northeastern Badakhan province, an official said on Monday.
About 150 families gained access to telecom services with activation of the facility.
Maulvi Zabiullah Mujahid, Badakhsan borders and tribal affairs director, told Pajhwok Afghan News a telecom antenna was transferred to Loye Pamir area through Tajikistan in cooperation with the Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC).
According to him, currently residents of the area have access to telecommunication services.
He added a team of engineers who installed the Salaam communication network antenna were yet to return from the Pamir area and details would be shared with the media once the engineers arrived in the provincial capital, Faizabad.
Health services have also been provided to residents of the Pamir residents and efforts are underway to address their school and road problems, Mujahid explained.
Meanwhile, Haji Bato, an influential figure of the area, expressed happiness over the activation of the telecommunication service.
He said last winter respiratory diseases in the Pamir area killed more than twenty people because local residents had no access to telecom services to inform the provincial government. He hoped the new facility would resolve their problem.
Earlier, a telecommunication antenna was activated in Pamir Kochak area of Wakhan district of the province.
