KABUL (Pajhwok): The production capacity of the Bost cotton-processing factory in southern Helmand province has increased, say Finance Ministry officials.
The factory has produced 100 tonnes of cooking oil, 500 tonnes of press cake and 61,000 cakes of detergent soap since March 21, 2023, the officials said.
The ministry says the company was established in 1968 for the economic uplift of farmers and growth of the agriculture sector.
The factory, which stopped operations during the previous government, jerked back into action after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) takeover.
A statement from MoF said the factory had produced 100 tonnes of cooking oil, 500 tonnes of cotton cakes and 61,000 cakes of soap since the beginning of the current solar year.
The company produces in 24 hours of 90 tonnes of processed cotton, 44 tonnes of cotton cakes, 5.1 tonnes of unprocessed oil, 10 tonnes of cooking oil, 38 tonnes of seeds peeling (flake), two tonnes of unprocessed cotton and 10,000 cakes of detergent soap.
It has 50 years of quality production experience, having inked multiple contracts for cotton exports to the US, Iran, Pakistan, Bulgaria and other countries.
Having 126 workers, the factory produces cooking oil, cotton cake, cotton, soap and flakes, according to the MoF statement.
It has collected more revenue, compared to the last year, from product sales and rents of properties, contributing to the national exchequer.
