KABUL (Pajhwok): The Russian foreign minister says the interim government in Kabul is in control of the situation in Afghanistan.
“There is a de facto government in Afghanistan, and it has the situation under its control,” Sergey Lavrov told reporters.
Russia’s top diplomat voiced optimism about the formation of a government in Afghanistan with “political inclusivity.”
Despite protests, he said, the caretaker government wielded real power and the Russian embassy never stopped operations in Kabul.
The foreign minister added: “We maintain regular communication with the Taliban, including on issues that need to be solved for them to become a fully recognised government.”
Lavrov recalled the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s promise to set up an inclusive government, including representatives of all ethnic groups and having political inclusivity.
For its part, the IEA has repeatedly said it is a broad-based government. It has also asked detractors to define inclusivity.
