ASADABAD (Pajhwok): About 2,500 individuals have been learning different technical skills in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Monday.
Kunar Labour and Social Affairs director Qari Mujibullah Omar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the short technical and vocational courses were taught in cooperation with some non-governmental organizations.
He said individuals struggling with economic hardships were enrolled in Watapur, Pech Dara, Khas Kunar, Ghaziabad, Nari districts and Asadabad, the provincial capital.
He said skills such as tailoring, carpentry, furniture making, poultry protection and small businesses were taught in cooperation with NGOs
He said after the six month course, the graduates could start their own business in the related field.
According to him, these individuals are also given about 6,400 afghanis monthly salary by Shapool organization during the training so they can meet their families daily needs.
Youths learning the skills were happy and asked the government to arrange more such vocational programmes
Shahzada, a resident of Watapur district, who is learning mobile phone repairing skills, said after graduation from this center he would launch his own business.
He said: “I am a high school graduate and the breadwinner of my 13 member family. I was jobless and now I am happy to be provided with vocational learning.”
Sanaul Haq, a resident of Dusakhel area of Asadabad city, who is learning carpentry at the center, said the government should provide job opportunities to the individuals who would graduate from the center.
Earlier, thousands of people, including women, have received vocational training arranged by the Labour and Social Affairs Department in the province.
