GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): After receiving treatment, 250 drug addicts have been reunited with their families in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.
The police headquarters said the Counter-Narcotics Department had shifted 800 drug addicts for treatment to rehabilitation centres.
Counter-Narcotics Director Maulvi Faiz Mohammad Faizani said health centres equipped the drug addicts with religious education in addition to treating them.
He said the Counter-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior funded their treatment and provided facilities for the drug addicts.
Ahmad Khan, a resident of central Maidan Wardak province who was rehabilitated after three months of treatment, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We ask IEA to give us jobs and vocational training. Unemployment had pushed us into addiction.”
According to local officials, nearly 20,000 people in the province are addicted to drugs, including children and women.
