KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan has pledged to provide $36 million assistance to Afghanistan in different sectors, according to a statement on Thursday.
The pledged was made by Ryuichi Funatsu, Director for Economic Security Policy Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, during a meeting with Mullah Mohammad Abbas Akhund, state minister for Natural Disaster Management, the statement said.
According to reports Japan provided $58 million to Afghanistan last year.
On its Twitter handle the State Ministry for Natural Disasters Management wrote that Funatsu renewed Japan’s commitment to cooperate with Afghanistan in basic areas such as development and capacity building of people.
During the meeting State Minister Mullah Abbas Akhund referred to historic and cordial ties between Japan and Afghanistan and hailed Tokyo’s continued support.
He referred to the existing problems in the area of health, shelters, food shortage and stressed serious attention to these sectors.
