Uruzgan residents to obtain loan for own businesses

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) have prepared a plan to facilitate residents of central Uruzgan province to start their own businesses.

UNAMA office head for southwestern zone Alex Prune revealed the plan during a meeting with Uruzgan Chamber and Commerce and Investment (ACCI) officials.

Prune said they made the join plan to create businesses opportunities.

Under the plan, people will be issued small loans from DAB to start their own businesses.

Prune hoped unemployment would decrease significantly with implementation of the plan.

Provincial ACCI director Haji Habibullah Omar expressed his optimism about the promises of the UN official and added the implementation of such plans would generate employment chances for the unemployed people.

“We also sought UN assistance about electricity generation in Tirinkot city”, Omar said.

He said UNAMA was also asked to assist poppy farmers with alternative source of income.

Local residents welcomed the plan and said they would be able to start their own businesses with the loan money.
