KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work on a parking area has been initiated at a cost of 50 million afghanis at the Hairatan Port in northern Balkh province, an official said on Thursday.
Acting Minister of Finance Mullah Mohammad Nasir Akhund, Balkh Governor Mohammad Yousaf Wafa and other local officials attended the inauguration ceremony for the project.
Wafa said they were trying to serve the nation well in addition to establishing an Islamic system, ensuring full security and implementing basic projects.
He promised many large-scale projects would be implemented across Afghanistan with its own revenue and support from traders.
The finance minister said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) was trying to create facilities for businesspeople at customs offices.
He said the parking lot and a warehouse at the Hairatan port were being constructed at a cost of nearly 50 million afghanis.
He continued: “We are trying to initiate similar projects in other parts of the country as well to promote trade and create facilities for businesspeople.”
According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the parking area is being constructed on four acres land and would take seven months to complete.
The cost of the project is being paid by the Ministry of Finance.
