Tashkent hosts 4th Trans-Afghan railway project meeting

KABUL (Pajhwok): Qatar has expressed its interest to participate and invest in the Trans-Afghan railway project at the project’s fourth meeting held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

The 780 kilometers long railway line will connect Central Asia with South Asia from Afghanistan. It starts from Mazar-i-Sharif and reaches Torkham town.

The Afghanistan Railway Authority in a statement said the fourth meeting of the Trans-Afghan railway project was held in Tashkent.

High-ranking representatives of Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Qatar were present and ARA head Mullah Bakht Rahman Sharaf and administrative assistant Syed Mohammad Naeem Mohammadi and technical assistant Abdul Bari Siddiqui virtually attended the talks.

The ARA statement said the Qatar Railways showed willingness to participate and invest in the project.

It was decided that the next meeting will be held on February 19 on financing, physical research and the status of new participants and investors in the project.

The parties agreed that a complete plan should be presented in the next meeting to evaluate and provide facilities for the project.

A global consulting company will provide necessary information for the project to countries and international financial institutions.

The signed protocol between Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan states that this railway line will facilitate both passenger and commercial goods transportation and will help develop regional trade and economic growth.
