Flour, sugar prices down, cooking oil up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar and Kazakh flour decreased, but that of Malaysian cooking oil increased during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders Association, said the rate of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakhstani flour decreased from 1,600afs to 1,550afs, but the price of a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil went up from 1,430afs to 1,450afs.

He said a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice cost 2,600afs while the price of a 49-kilogarm sack of Indian sugar decreased from 3,400afs to 3,300afs.

By the same token, a kilogram of African black tea accounted for 400afs and the same amount of Indonesian green tea for 350afs.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer at Dahna-i-Bagh Market, said the retail price of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakh flour was 1,600afs, a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,650afs and a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 3,350afs.

A 16-litre bottle of cooking oil accounted for 1,500afs, one kilogram of black tea for 450afs and the same quantity of green tea for 400afs, he added.

Gold prices

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold stayed unchanged at 4,150afs and the same amount of the Russian variety at 3,250afs.

Fuel prices

A worker at the Ahmadyar Group of Pump Stations said the price of one litre of petrol remained unchanged at 63afs and diesel at 60afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta locality, sold one kilogram of the commodity for 50afs.

Afghani exchange rate

Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, said one US dollar traded at 73.70afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 255afs.

Last week, one US dollar accounted for 74afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 250.
