KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi and Russia’s presidential Advisor Ruslan Edelgeriyev have discussed the need for beefing up bilateral relations.
Muttaqi met Edelgeriyev in his office on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.
It added the two sides conferred on Russo-Afghan cooperation in areas like climate change, economic links and upgrading diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Muttaqi believed further progress in ties could be made in several areas by boosting diplomatic relations between Kabul and Moscow.
He added although Afghanistan was not a greenhouse gas emitter, it remained vulnerable to hazardous effects of climate change.
He sought support from Russia in to ensure Afghanistan’s participation in international forums on environmental protection.
For his part, Edelgeriyev pledged to convey recent developments in and real image of Afghanistan to the Russian president.
He endorsed the idea of Afghan representatives’ participation in international climate change meetings. He stressed support for Kabul’s participation in COP29, which is scheduled to be held in Baku.
