Afghanistan, China discuss cooperation in banking sector

KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Bank Governor Hidayatullah Badri and China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) officials have discussed facilitating the banking sector and resolving its problems.

Central bank officials held a meeting with officials of MCC, which is implementing the Mes Ainak copper mine project in Logar province.

DAB said the two sides conferred on ways of facilitating and solving problems in financial and banking sectors of Afghanistan and China.

Badri said Afghanistan’s central bank was committed to playing an effective role in implementation of development projects and providing banking services.

He called the Mes Ainak mine one of the largest projects in the country. All banking problems would be resolved with the implementation of the project, he hoped.

For his part, the MCC chief to complete the Mes Ainak project without delay or hindrance. He also asked DAB for greater cooperation in providing banking services.

MCC won the contract in 2008 and is expected to invest around three billion dollars in developing the copper mine, possibly the second largest in the world.
