Citrus saplings planted on 50 acres land in Nangarhar  

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Canal Department in eastern Nangarhar province has started the cultivation of citrus gardens on 50 acres land, an official said on Wednesday.

The Canal Department Head Mawlavi Ghulam Rahman Kazim said the project was funded from the department’s budget and all saplings of Malta are brought up in the Canal Department’s nurseries.

He said this garden was being established on the 50 acres land in the 3rd block of the firs farm at the cost of three million afs.

He said 6,600 saplings of citrus were planted in this farm which will help improve the citrus production in the province.

The fact that Canal is a national asset so we want to make it green for our future generation,” he believed.

Canal Department with the help of private sector last year also established oranges and other fresh fruits orchards on hundreds acres land in Nangarhar.
