UN commends Qatar for hosting meeting on Afghanistan

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Qatari minister for foreign affairs have discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan and Gaza.

Guterres thanked Qatar for its continued support for the UN’s work in Afghanistan, as well as to the Afghan people, a statement from the foreign ministry in Doha said.

He also appreciated Qatar for hosting, for the second time, a meeting of special envoys on Afghanistan.

The secretary-general expressed deep appreciation for Qatar’s continued mediatory role regarding the expansion of humanitarian aid to Gaza, an interruption of hostilities and the release of hostages.

He expressed his gratitude for Qatar’s additional support to UNRWA at a time when the agency was under attack, despite the dramatic humanitarian needs of the Gaza people, who rely on its support.
