KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Railways Authority (ARA) on Thursday said about 381,000 metric tons of goods were imported and nearly 3,000 tons exported through the country’s railroads during the past one month.

It said 31,253 tons of goods were imported to the country through Hairatan railway, 31,821 tons through Aqina railway and 37, 595 tons through Torghundi railway, with their total weight reaching 381,469 metric tons, the ARA said in a statement.

It said during the same period, 3,216 tons of goods were exported to foreign countries, mostly dried fruits and rice, through the railroads.

Afghanistan Railways Authority spokesman Sami Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News the imports included wheat, flour, cooking oil, other food items and liquefied gas. These items were imported from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and China.

The exported goods mostly contained dried fruits and rice and pomegranate juice, he said.

These items were exported to central Asian countries from south Asian countries.

The Railway Authority said it was trying to further facilitate traders in transportation of goods.

According to ARA information, during the previous month, 386,649 metric tons of goods were imported and 3,002 metric tons exported to foreign countries.
