16 tonnes of goods reach Mazar-i-Sharif via air corridor

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A cargo plane carrying 16 tonnes of commercial goods from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has landed at the Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi Airport here, officials say.

Customs Director Abdullah Mutmaen said the cargo plane transported electronics for the Bayat Power, a private company, from Dubai to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.

Since the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) takeover, it was the first time when a cargo plane transported commercial goods through the air corridor to Mazar-i-Sharif.

According to Mutmaen, the Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi Airport is ready for all types of flights and the authorities are trying to regularise the process.

Balkh Chamber of Commerce Director Asadullah Asadi welcomed the commercial flight as an effective step towards the economic development of the country.

Previously, pine nuts and other commodities have also been exported through the same airport to a number of regional countries, officials say.
