LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Five people, including women and children, have been killed and a sixth injured in two separate incidents of roof collapse in southern Helmand province, an official said on Thursday.
Mohammad Qasim Riaz, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the first incident took place in the Kharbo Potanio area of Nawa district on Wednesday night.
He said the roof Haji Soor Gul’s house collapsed following rains, killing one child, three women and a man.
Separately, Information Director Hafiz Abdul Bari Rashid said a woman was killed and a man injured as a result of another roof cave-in in Kajaki district on Wednesday night.
Qasim Riaz said the Lashkargah Municipality and Disaster Relief Department were trying to provide urgent assistance to the affected families.
He also asked residents of the province to not stay in the rooms, which were at the risk of collapse.
