KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi has discussed with Turkmen officials the TAPI gas pipeline project and LPG supply to Afghanistan.

Muttaqi and the delegation accompanying him met Deputy Minister of The Council of Minister of Turkmenistan, Bater Amanov on oil and gas supplies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.

Both sides held comprehensive discussions on the TAPI project and supply of LPG to Afghanistan, the statement added.

Following a recent visit of the Turkmen foreign minister to Herat province, Muttaqi said, the implementation of TAPI project had been accelerated in Afghanistan.

He renewed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s firm commitment to the execution of the mega project, hoping the first phase of the pipeline extension to Herat province would start soon.

According to Muttaqi, Herat is a densely populated province, which can provide a good market for Turkmenistan’s gas with implementation of the scheme there.

The deputy chairman of Turkmenistan’s Council of Ministers said the supply of energy, especially the TAPI project, was a core priority for his government.

He added the extension of TAPI project to Herat also had a special importance for Turkmenistan.

Armanov hailed IEA’s commitment and efforts as significant, hopping work on agreements regarding the TAPI project would be completed soon.
