SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): At least seven people have died including five children after heavy snow blocked roads in northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials said on Monday.

Natural Disaster Management Authority director Sayed Sefatullah Safwan told Pajhwok Afghan News recent snowfall had blocked roads between Al Badr district and local health facilities, leading to the deaths of two women and five children.

The snow also destroyed nine houses partially or completely.

The road between Deh Yak and Sancharak districts remained blocked by snow, rendering officials unable to deliver 5,000 kilograms of wheat to the affected areas.

Natural Disaster Management Authority officials have so far distributed 3,000 kilograms of wheat, 130 blankets and food stuff to some of the affected families and an overall survey is still underway in affected areas.
