Disarmament drive ongoing, says Interior Ministry

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has taken necessary measures to collect arms from irresponsible individuals and the process is in progress, says the Ministry Interior.

On awareness about the global disarmament day, the Ministry of Interior said the day had special importance for maintaining peace and ensuring global security.

The use of conventional and non-conventional weapons could cause serious problems to humanity, environment and sustainable development, the ministry said in a statement.

Disarmament and non-distribution of weapons could undoubtedly reduce such threats, the MoI statement added.

Like the international community, Afghanistan respected the global day of disarmament and wanted the countries benefitting from arms production not to cause the destruction of humanity and mass killing of innocent people by producing and selling weapons.

MoI said Afghanistan was one of the countries whose people had been affected by the use and testing of different weapons, mines and other ordnances by invaders during the past five decades.

According to its strategy and plans, the IEA seeks stability in the country and the region and remains committed to the protection and maintenance of weapons.

The IEA leadership had taken necessary measures to collect arms from irresponsible individuals and the process was in progress, the statement concluded.
