KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Information and Culture has organized a scientific seminar titled ‘Abu Raihan Al-Biruni scientific position in Islamic culture and civilization field”, an official said on Wednesday.

Deputy Director of Culture and Arts Atiqullah Azizi opened the seminar in Kabul and asked the youth to follow characters like Al-Biruni.

A number of IEA officials, scientists, researchers and writers attended the two-day seminar. The second day would be held in southern Ghazni province on March 7.

The seminar is jointly held by the ministries of higher education, education, finance, foreign affairs and the Academy of Sciences.

The Ministry of Information and Culture said writers had sent it 50 articles on scientific position of Al-Biruni, in which 22 articles were selected and published.

Guidance department director Sheikh Bismillah read out a message from the Prime Minister, saying the IEA’s aim was to honor great men of Islamic history who made Afghanistan proud.

Atiqullah Azizi explained Al-Biruni was not only a scholar of religion, but a scientist in the east and west.

Al-Biruni was a genius whose works were used in biggest scientific centers and he gave “light and vision to all the people of the world”, according to Azizi.

“Islamic culture can create personalities like Al-Biruni and the youth should follow scientific personalities”.

Abu Rihan Al-Biruni was a multi-dimensional scientific and cultural personality, mathematician, astronomer, historian and geographer, anthropologist, wisdom and philosopher who was fluent in Khwarazmi, Persian, Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit languages and was also familiar with ancient Greek, Hebrew and Syriac languages.

He was born on 362 lunar year and the number of his writings reach 146 treatises and books.
