ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Kabul B have trounced Paktia by seven wickets to clinch the title of 15th edition of the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan provincial grade-one tournament.
Paktia won the toss and opted to bat first in the final. Skipper Sediq Pacha hit a century to help his side set a 263 runs target for Kabul B, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said.
Mohammad Riaz scored 52 runs whereas Rahman Zurmati and Marwan Nisar chipped in with 40 and 20 runs respectively, a statement from the board said.
For Kabul B, Mehboob Taskin smashed an unbeaten 116 runs while captain Sami Mamozai hit 54 and Usman Noori 53. They chased down the target in the penultimate over for the loss of three wickets.
Mehboob Taskin was adjudged player of the match for his unbeaten 116 runs off 133 balls — studded with nine fours and a six.
Kabul B opener Mehboob Taskin, who scored 295 runs including two centuries in the tournament, was given the best batter award.
Right-arm fast bowler Abdullah Ahmadzai from Kabul B was named the best bowler of the event, with 16 scalps in eight matches.
Upcoming leg-spinner Aqil Khan was adjudged emerging player of the tournament, picking 11 wickets in his debut season.
Paktia’s Haqmal Arya was named the best player of the event for his terrific all-round performance. He scored 144 runs and claimed 12 wickets to help his side reach the final.
The event, featuring 12 provincial teams, started on February 20 and was played across four venues in Kandahar, Kunar and Nangarhar. The knockout stages took place in Nangarhar.
