India wants enhanced political, economic ties with Afghanistan

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): An Indian delegation led by Joint Secretary (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran) of the Ministry of External Affairs, JP Singh, has called on acting Foreign Minister of Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesman for the MoFA, wrote on X: “Today, the MEA Joint Secretary of the Republic of India for Af-Ir-Pak, Mr. J.P. Singh called on IEA-Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.”

He said the meeting focused on in-depth discussions on bilateral Afghanistan-India relations, economic and transit matters.

Singh said that India was interested in expanding political and economic cooperation with Afghanistan, and enhancing trade via Chabahar port.

According to the Indian diplomat, his country has provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in various areas in the last two and half years.

He also commended the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's efforts in ensuring overall security, stability and countering narcotics.

For his part, Muttaqi thanked India for its humanitarian assistance and said that IEA sought to strengthen political and economic relations with India.

Muttaqi urged India’s Joint Secretary to facilitate visa issuance process for Afghan businessmen, students and patients.
