FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A three-day book fair has been opened in Faizabad, the capital city of northeastern Badakhshan province, to promote book reading culture, an official said on Saturday.

Ahmad Nabil Qazizada, one of the book fair organizers, said they took the initiative in coordination with the Municipality and the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.

The event will last for three days, a large number of women and men visited the book fair, and they saw and purchased books, he added.

He said the title of the book fair is ‘Come and read books’ and its purpose was to discourage illegal migrations. Qazizada added hundreds literature, art, social, cultural, religious and historic books had been put on display in today’s exhibition.

Seba Sara, one of the girls who visited the book fair, welcomed the initiative and asked the relevant officials to organize book fairs on regular bases.

She added that she was the student of class 8th adding that she deprived of school after the closure of schools like any other girl and hoped that in this spring the doors of schools will be opened on girl above class sixth.

Maryam Roya, another girl who visited the exhibition, also hailed the move and added every step taken to encourage education and girls deprived of education was admirable.

She asked girls to take full advantage of the opportunities available for them, study religious and other favorite books and besides this they should learn tailoring and weaving as well.

Hikmatullah Mohammadi, deputy head of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, welcomed the organization of book fair and the initiative taken by the Qazizada Book sale in cooperation with the Municipality.

He termed this initiative vital for the promotion of book reading and encouragement of common people.

He said the Information and Cultural Affairs Department stood by bookstores and other promoters of culture and art and assured them of full support in the framework of Islamic laws.

He said life has no value without book reading and asked youth to adhere to the book reading culture for the prosperity and country.
