142 new telecom sites installed in Uruzgan this year

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Telecommunication and Information Technology Department officials in central Uruzgan province say they have installed 142 new telecom sites to extend telecom services in the province this solar year that ends on March 21.

Provincial telecommunication and IT director Maulvi Zainullah Farooqi told Pajhwok Afghan News in the past 11 months, 142 new telecommunication sites were installed in different districts of the province.

He said their activation enabled 80 percent people to find access to telecommunication services.

He added: “Eighty percent residents of the province enjoy voice call facility.”

In addition to voice calls, residents of three districts, including the provincial capital, also found access to internet services, he explained.

He said they were in contact with other telecommunication firms to provide people with internet services in all districts of the province.

According to him, currently SIM cards are issued in center Tirinkot and Dehrawud district.

Meanwhile, local residents said they were happy to have found access to telecommunication services.

Syed Nabi, a resident of Khas Uruzgan district, said a telecom site had been activated in their area for the first time and they found access to telephone calls, but said they should also be provided with internet service.

Mohammad Wali, a resident of Chora district, said telecommunication firm should increase their branches in the province so they could easily obtain SIM cards.

He said due to crowd, it took days to obtain a SIM card from the only center in Tirinkot.
