HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of development projects have been executed at a cost of 300 million afghanis in western Herat province, an official said on Tuesday.
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Maulvi Abdul Salam Hijrat said 80 development projects had been put into service in Kohsan and Zinda Jan districts.
The World Bank provided financial support for the uplift schemes that took 18 months to complete.
He said the schemes included the construction of retaining walls, culverts and cleaning of canals. At least 20,000 people were provided jobs on the projects.
Governor Maulvi Noor Ahmad Islam told the inaugural ceremony the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) planned to execute more than 30 major development projects in he province.
He said an industrial park, a modern terminal and other major projects were implemented this solar year in the province.
Residents of Kohsan district are happy over execution of the projects. Previously, they said, they faced problems, including the lack of telecommunication, education and health facilities.
Maulvi Shamsuddin, a tribal elder from the district, said security had been ensured across the country and the caretaker government should build schools and health centres in Kohsan.
