KABUL (Pajhwok): Physicians believe that fasting has a very positive impact on the human body and internal organs and by sticking to a proper food plan in Sehri and Iftar people could further benefit from its positive impact.
During fasting people do not eat or drink for hours therefore a balanced intake of liquids and foods was of great importance.
Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Dalili, an internal disease specialist in the UK, said during the month of Ramadan, you should pay more attention to the types of food and make sure that all the nutrients are taken to maintain a balanced body.
Referring to the advantage of the Holy month of Ramadan he said this month is a good opportunity for those who intend to stop using drugs or lose weight
Dr. Dalili explained fasting gave the digestive system a chance to rest, helped reduce inflammation in the body, reduced blood sugar, regulates blood pressure, and helped burn body fat and lose weight.
Suitable food in Sehri and Iftar
When asked about suitable food during Sehri and Iftar, Dr. Dalili said foods like dates, water, soup, fresh and dried fruits were beneficial.
He emphasised that eating fried and spicy foods, foods that have a lot masala, as well as salty and sweet foods that cause an imbalance in the level of sodium in the body and thirst, should be avoided.
Dr. Mujtaba Mohammadi, an internal disease specialist, said It would be useful to eat protein and vitamin rich foods in Sehri, because by eating them, the body would not face a lack of energy during the day.
He said He said that the use of caffeinated drinks such as coffee would lead to insomnia and discomfort, drinking energy drinks that contain artificial sugar, as well as very cold water and very hot tea should be avoided.
He said the best drinks during Ramadan would be warm water and juices with low amounts of sugar.
He said overeating during Iftar should be avoided, because the possibility of gaining weight is more in this case, and also drinks enough water.
Every year with the arrival of Ramadan in Afghanistan, the price of food recommended by doctors is higher than before, and poor families cannot afford them
