Cabinet seeks plan to curb traffic accidents

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) cabinet has tasked relevant agencies to thrash out a plan for preventing traffic accidents in the country.

Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund presided over a cabinet meeting on Monday, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

Various issues were discussed and important decisions made at the meeting.

The cabinet tasked the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) and the Supreme Court to devise the strategy.

Traffic accidents have recently increased in different parts of the country.

On Sunday, 21 people were killed and 38 others wounded in a collision in southern Helmand province.

According to Pajhwok Afghan News reports, about 4,500 people have been killed and injured as a result of traffic accidents across the country in the current year.

A delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, was directed to determine the boundaries of districts and submit its report to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The team has representatives from the ministries of interior, foreign affairs agriculture and borders and tribal affairs and General Directorate of Intelligence,

The cabinet also directed the Ministry of Economy to inform all institutions that they are strictly prohibited employing IEA officials before they serve out their legal terms, the statement concluded.
