KABUL (Pajhwok): Rain-induced floods have destroyed 1,500 acres of agriculture land and severely damaged more than 540 residential houses over the last two days across Afghanistan, says the United Nations.

The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement on Sunday the flooding also washed away six bridges and destroyed 450 kilometres of roads in seven provinces of the country.

It said most of the damage had occurred in northern Faryab, eastern Nangarhar and central Daikundi provinces

This is the third time in less than a month that the northern region has experienced flooding, with seven people killed and 384 families affected by heavy rains.

Humanitarian partners are preparing to assist affected families in coordination with the de-facto authorities, including the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA).
