BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): UNESCO Culture Programme Officer in Afghanistan Brendan James Cassar says reconstruction work on ancient sites in central Bamyan province will be initiated soon.

He held out the promise at a meeting with Bamyan’s Information and Culture Director Maulvi Safiullah.

The Information and Culture Department said the two sides discussed the reconstruction of ancient sites in the province.

Cassar said reconstruction work would be launched on all the historical places across the province by UNESCO in the near future.

In addition to the reconstruction of historical sites, the UNESCO official assured they would also execute incomplete projects.

For his part, Safiullah appreciated UNESCO activities and said dozens ancient sites needed reconstruction in the province.

He asked UNESCO to repair more historical places in the province. UNESCO has been functioning in Bamyan for about 14 years and has executed several development schemes there.
