1 child killed, 5 wounded in Herat mortar shell blast

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): One child has been killed and five others have been wounded in a mortar shell blast in the Kashk-i-Rubat Sangi district of western Herat province, an official said on Monday.

Police spokesman Abdullah Insaf told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in the Talkhtan village of the district on Sunday afternoon.

He said one child lost his life and five others were wounded in the explosion. The injured, who were evacuated to hospital, are said to be in stable condition.

Also on Sunday, five children were killed in a similar blast in southern Ghazni province. Many children have been killed and wounded in similar blasts in different parts of the country.
