KABUL (Pajhwok): A Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC)’s archeology department delegation has identified 58 ancient sites while conducting survey of the Qush Tepa canal route in northern Balkh and Jawzjan provinces.
MoIC wrote on its X handle that the professional delegation of the ministry’s Archeology Department had identified 58 ancient sites along the Qush Tepa canal route in Kaldar, Dawlatabad, Nahr-e-Shahi and Chahi districts of Balkh and Mardiyan and Aqcha districts of Jawzjan province.
Starting from zero point, the survey works of the 128km route continued with geographical location, nature and condition of the area on both sides of the canal.
tiAccording to MoIC, 55 ancient artifacts were found in Kaldar, Nahr-e-Shahi, Dawlatabad and Chahi districts.
In the second phase of digging the second part of the canal will start from 108km and ended at 208 km. The canal is being dug in Chahi district and in Jawzjan’s Mardiyan, Khanqa, Aqcha and Do Koh districts.
These ancient areas were identified as a result of the survey.
The Qush tepa canal is 280km long, 100 meters wide an five meters deep and has capacity to irrigate 500,000 hectares of land in Balkh, Jawzjan and Faryab provinces.
Primary work to construct the canal has been completed.
