BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Access to information is one of the basic human rights that improved with time in central Bamyan province, according to an official of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on Monday.
The regional office of UNAMA arranged a gathering on the successful implementation of access to information and freedom of expression between media and relevant government representatives.
UNAMA Regional Office Head Sara Demol said that access to information was an important human right and it was improving with time in the province.
She said the appointment of public relations officials in the government institutions and sharing information by local institutions helped access to information and the organization of such programs would help improve the transfer of information and improved coordination.
She believed that freedom of expression and access to information could the successful implementation of human rights and improved transparency in public activities.
Safiullah Raed, head of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, said that the appointment of public relations officials in all provincial institutions showed that officials wanted to be accountable.
He said the provincial administration facilitated access to information and all information was disseminated without any restriction.
Hameedullah Arafi, head of a local media outlet, said with time government and media outlets’ interaction and cooperation had improved and officials provided the necessary cooperation to media outlets when it comes to access to information.
