Want to move towards development schemes: UN

KABUL (Pajhwok): UNAMA’s Deputy Special Representative and Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan Indrika Ratwatte says they want to move from humanitarian assistance towards implementing development projects.

Ratwatte and the delegation accompanying him met Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Maulvi Mohammad Younis Akhundzada here on Sunday.

Ratwatte highlighted his activities and called the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) an essential sector ministry with a key role in execution of rural development.

A statement from the ministry quoted him as saying they planned to take steps towards implementation of development schemes through humanitarian aid.

He appreciated the cooperation of ministry in implementation of various projects and announced a plan to work with MoRRD on water supply projects.

For his part, Akhundzada called the implementation of development schemes an important step. Priority should be given to basic projects instead of humanitarian assistance.
