FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Eight people, including three government officials, have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with a viral video in which a girl was taken from her house by force in the Pasaband district of western Ghor province, an official said on Wednesday.

The Governor’s Spokesperson Mawlavi Abdul Wahid Hammas told Pajhwok Afghan News that the district administrative chief, district police chief, district intelligence chief and five others had been arrested on the order of the governor and sent to jail.

After a viral video, some sources claimed that personnel of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had taken a 17-year-old girl from the Nawrak village of Pasaband district by force and tied her knot with Shah Wali, one of the IEA fighters.

But Police Spokesperson Abdul Rahman Badri Abdul Rahman Badri rejected the claim and said that the dispute between the two families was the reason that they raised their voices against the personnel of the IEA.

He said Shah Wali got married to the daughter of Mohsen recently and after marriage, Shah Wali borrowed money from his in-laws.

After some time Shah Wali’s wife went to her father’s house and her father did not allow her daughter to return because of the debt issue.

Shah Wali then referred to the district administration and the district administration decided on the issue after consensus from both sides He said: “After some time, the dispute between the sides became hotter, causing a controversy between these two families, when the son-in-law of this family forced his way into his in-law’s house with some of his relatives and took his wife with him by force.”

He said local officials arrived at the site and addressed the issue. Eight people, including three district officials, had been arrested in connection with the incident, he added.

IEA Chief Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Individuals and military personnel who used force or opted for torture had been referred to the military court, they may be arrested and the dispute between the two families referred to local elders to address it.”

He said the decision of the military court would be enforced.
