LASHKARGAH/MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Two people were killed, a woman and four children injured as a result of an overnight flash flood in southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.
Hafiz Abdul Bari Rashid, head of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News heavy overnight rainfall triggered flash floods in Lashkargha, the provincial capital, and Musa Kala, Baghran, Marja, Sangin, Nawmesh and Kajaki districts.
He said standing crops, homes and solar panels had been damaged as a result of the natural disaster.
Two people had been killed and a woman and three children had been injured in Marja district and Lashkargha. He added several stranded people had been rescued by security forces.
Separately, heavy rainfall also inflicted losses on common people in eastern Laghman province.
Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, head of the provincial Disaster Management Authority, said flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the Dawlatshah and Alishang districts on Sunday night.
He said standing crops on 75 acres of land, and 110 rooms of some houses had been destroyed by the floods.
Qumandan Dadi, a resident of Dawlatshah district Farshghan locality, said flash floods erupted in the district in the past two days.
He said their standing crops had been destroyed, tens of rooms in different houses collapsed and the Frashghan road with the district centre disconnected.
It is pertinent to mention that flash floods inflicted financial and human losses to people in the past couple of days nationwide.
