KABUL (Pajhwok): Traffic accidents claimed at least 50 lives and injured another more than 180 people during the four days of Eidul Fitr across the country, the General Directorate of Traffic announced on Monday.
The directorate wrote on its X handle that 102 traffic accidents reported nationwide despite efforts by traffic police to prevent them during the four holidays of the festival.
It said 50 individuals, including eight women and 13 children, were killed and 185 others, including 33 women and 34 children, injured in these incidents.
Initial investigations suggest most of the accidents occurred due to violation of traffic rules and high speed, the directorate added.
The mishaps claimed 19 lives in Herat, 11 in Ghazni and 10 in Paktika.
