KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) says throwing garbage into the Kabul River has negatively impacted power generation at Naghlu, Sarobi and Mahipar hydropower dams.
The power utility wrote on its X handle that recent countrywide rains had increased power generation levels to 1,400 megawatts in Naghlu, Sarobi and Mahipar dams, but garbage thrown into the Kabul river had increased sediments in the reservoirs.
DABS asked the citizens of Kabul to refrain from dumping garbage in the river to avoid problems to power generation.
In a statement, the Kabul Municipality also asked residents on both sides of the river to refrain from throwing garbage into the river and warned of legal action against violators.
It said: "Let us not harm our peace of mind or urban beauty by not throwing garbage into this river."
The municipality said dumping garbage in the Kabul river was harmful and threatened the lives of people.
