MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) officials in northern zone say their organization will provide aid to seven million people in Afghanistan, including two million in the northern zone, this year.
Balkh deputy governor Noor-ul-Hadi Abu Adress met WFP head for the northern zone Najibullah Rahmani.
The Balkh governor house in a statement quoted the WFP official as saying they assist seven million people in 350 districts of Afghanistan this year, including two million in the northern zone.
The organization continued providing services in various sectors, including construction of canals, retaining walls and emergency aid, Rahmani explained.
He added the WFP had assisted farmers with chemical fertilizers in some districts and also provided vocational training and started small business for the needy people.
For his part, the deputy governor praised WFP’s services and assured all possible cooperation.
He asked the WFP to carry out services in cooperation with relevant agencies so the assistance could reach the deserving individuals.
