Nangarhar floods kill 1 child, cause financial losses

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): One child died, two others wounded and dozens of houses destroyed by recent flash floods in eastern Nangarhar province.

In a statement, the governor’s house said that one child died and two others wounded when their room’s roof collapsed in Batikot district on Friday.

He said dozens of residential houses were damaged and several acres of agricultural land also destroyed in Kot, Lalpura, Spinghar, Khogyani and Nazyan districts in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the 201st Khalid bin Walid Military Corps official say that they have rescued dozens of people trapped in floods.

Niamat, inhabitant of Amarkhani area of Batikot district, told Pajhwok the recent floods had inflected financial losses on the people and urged the local authorities to support the floods-hit people.

The provincial natural disaster management said all the affected people would receive necessary assistance after a thorough survey.
