KABUL (Pajhwok): A Afghan teenager kidnapped in Iran has been rescued in western Herat province, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday.
In a video, MoI said security forces during an operation rescued the boy and arrested two kidnappers.
The rescued boy, Ali Reza, said: “I thanked the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), specially Herat corps, that I returned home after seven days and they arrested kidnappers”.
Police officials confirmed the incident and said they freed the teenager.
Police spokesman Abdullah Ensaaf said that Ali Reza was kidnapped in Iran on Friday night and rescued after six days.
The kidnappers were in Herat and had demanded 2.5 billion tomans in ransom, Ensaaf explained.
Police found and arrested the kidnappers through a phone number from which calls were made to Ali Reza’s family, the police official added.
